The first assertion of the right to freedom of religion in Jordan is their Constitution of 1952, ratified on July 11. The right can be found in Chapter Two, Article 14. Chapter 1, Article 2 establishes Islam as the official religion of Jordan. (“The Constitution of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan”, 1952).
